I can remember Mike Dunne breaking in with the '87 Pirates. He came over in the Andy Van Slyke/Tony Pena deal. Was a pleasant surprise for the Buccos that year, then promptly fell off the earth. Pretty sure he did time in San Diego and the White Sox before hanging them up.

Indeed, he did -- Mariners, too! Stuck around in the minors through 1994, so he gave his 1985 a good, long run of possiblities.

Adam, great read this week. Spending time in Indy and seeing all of those reds come up through the farm system reminded me of all of the guys that I thought would be superstars in the bigs...Arturo DeFreities, Champ Summers., Paul Householder, Duane Walker...the list was long at AAA, not so much in Cincy. And...I think I recognize your card dealer!

Those were the names of some dark days in Cincy, but also my early days following the team. Good/bad memories all rolled up into one.

Tht dealer was everywhere in the 80s and 90s, so I'm sure you ran into a few incarnations of him.

My memory of Burroughs is exactly yours. Back then I couldn’t understand how this same guy I was watching for the Braves actually won an MVP over Reggie (side note - do not sort the BRef 74 mvp standings by WAR - sad). Anyway that card you show isn’t his rookie card, which was his 72 Topps.

Yeah, good call. Got carried away with my "rookie" designations there.
